Volunteer Spotlight – Steve Borutski

HAMILTON, ON (April 4, 2024) With Volunteer Appreciation Week approaching, we wanted to shine the spotlight on another one of our remarkable volunteers – Steve Borutski.

Have you ever wondered what inspires someone to become a volunteer at Habitat for Humanity? For Steve Borutski, it all began with a simple trip to the ReStore, accompanied by his wife. Little did he know that this visit would ignite a passion for giving back that would only continue to grow.

Since 2020, Steve has been an invaluable member of Habitat for Humanity Hamilton, dedicating over 300 hours of his time to our cause. What sets Steve apart is his unwavering commitment to lending a hand wherever it’s needed. Whether it’s working with the Salvage team, contributing to the Fit-It shop, participating in our Repair and Build programs, or assisting with large deliveries and donations, Steve’s willingness to jump in and help is unmatched.

But Steve’s dedication doesn’t stop there. He’s the epitome of reliability, often rearranging his schedule at a moment’s notice to ensure that Habitat Hamilton runs smoothly. His fellow volunteers and Habitat staff can always count on him to bring a positive attitude, a can-do spirit, and a smile that lights up the room.

Juan, a member of our Build staff, sums up Steve’s approach perfectly: “There are no big challenges for him, just big tasks, and they are always done with a smile.” And Peter, Director of Building Services, echoes this sentiment, praising Steve’s outstanding skills and contributions. “His exceptional construction, leadership, and problem-solving skills combined with a seemly endless reserve of energy quickly earned him the respect and admiration of the construction team.”  Said Peter. […] “He is often the first volunteer to arrive and the last to leave.  He truly believes in doing every job the right way.”

But perhaps what’s most remarkable about Steve is his ability to inspire those around him. Whether he’s leading a team on a build site or offering words of encouragement to fellow volunteers, Steve’s kindness, patience, and compassion always shine through. He leads by example, showing everyone what it means to give your best, no matter the task at hand.

Through Steve’s efforts, countless families in our community have been assisted in achieving their dream of hope, stability, and the opportunity for a brighter future. His dedication to our mission, vision, and values has made a profound impact, turning dreams of homeownership into reality for those in need.

Thank you, Steve, for embodying the true spirit of Habitat for Humanity and for making every moment matter.  And to all our volunteers, thank you for all you do.  Together, you are making an enormous impact, and we simply couldn’t advance our cause without you.
